Fun, Art, and Funny Art

When humour needs an explanation, it fails.

I have fun during my time with others, yet humour plays no part in the visual art and music I create. Art invites scrutiny which counters the impulse of laughter.

Literature, drama, and film can all be funny, but without the weight of something that accompanies it of more significance, I rarely return to it.

The funny soon turns to the bitter pill of irony and the funny is no more.

Music can support humorous narrative but in my experience never causes laughter in isolation.

Humour is the mild and surprising violation of the way we feel the world ought to be. Art is the search for how it is.
